UAE Skies to Light Up: The Final Meteor Shower of 2025
As 2025 draws to a close, astronomy fans and casual stargazers in the UAE have one more spectacle to look forward to the final, and often most spectacular, meteor shower of the year. The upcoming Geminids meteor shower will peak on the night of December 13–14, 2025, offering a memorable display for anyone willing to look up.
What Makes the Geminids Special

Unlike many meteor showers, the Geminids originate from an asteroid rather than a comet. As Earth passes through the stream of dust and debris left behind by the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, bits of space rock enter our atmosphere and burn up, creating bright streaks of light.
Under ideal conditions, skywatchers can see up to 120 meteors per hour, sometimes even more. What’s more many of the meteors appear in vivid colours, ranging from green and yellow to blue, making the experience especially beautiful and surreal.
How to Catch the Show
To enjoy the Geminids properly, you don’t need a telescope just your eyes, a quiet spot and a little patience. The best way is to find a location away from city lights. Deserts, remote beaches or any dark-sky zones in the UAE work perfectly. Bring a blanket, lie back and give your eyes at least 20–30 minutes to adapt to the darkness. The meteor shower shows up in its full splendor typically between late evening and the early hours of the morning.
Why It’s Worth Watching
The Geminids are widely considered among the best meteor showers of the year worldwide. Their bright trails, high rate and the chance of coloured meteors make them a favourite for both experienced sky watchers and first-time observers. Because 2025 is nearing its end, this meteor shower offers a natural, awe-inspiring way to close out the year under the stars.
If you miss it this time don’t worry. The skies over the UAE will host more astronomical events again. But for now: mark December 13–14, 2025 on your calendar, step out under a clear sky and enjoy one of nature’s most spectacular light shows.
